Caravan For Rent In Europe

Caravan For Rent In Europe – Ever thought about RVing in Europe? This has been our dream for a long time, so last year we moved to France and that’s the reason. And it was just as amazing as we imagined! Maybe you want to do the same, but don’t know where to start. Hopefully, this article will address some of your burning questions so you can make your European RV dreams come true.

I guess the first thing everyone wants to know is what does it taste like? Touring Europe is in many ways similar to exploring the US, and in many other ways very different.

First of all RV is called motorhome, campervan or camping car in Europe. These toilets tend to be much smaller (~20-26 feet in size), lack slides and air conditioning (usually) and use small cassette toilets rather than black tanks. It does take a little getting used to, but it’s very well made and laid out. I love them.

Europe tends to be more densely populated than America. USA, with its narrow streets and many charming cobblestoned small towns, old churches and historic castles, many of which are centuries old. But there’s also plenty of nature, high mountains and wild beaches, and you can switch between them in less than a day’s drive. I like to say that it is dense and deep.

Campgrounds are smaller and generally only offer electric hookups (maybe water), but they come in all ranges and tend to have excellent facilities. Plus there are many places to stay that are free or almost free. And of course the rivers in Europe are super friendly, just like the rivers in America. I think it’s a worldwide thing.

Summer (June-August) is high season and honestly our least favorite time to RV. Kids aren’t in school so it’s crowded, rentals and campsites are more expensive, and you often have to book in advance, especially in popular areas. The only exception we make for summer paddling is Scandinavia, where crowds remain low and summer temperatures are nearly perfect. This is a special experience.

The shoulder season (April-May, September-October) is great almost everywhere, so it’s a time we highly recommend for exploring the UK and continental Europe. The crowds are gone, temperatures are mild, and rental and campsite prices are all lower. Some sites started shutting down at the end of September, but other than that, they were nearly perfect. We love these months!

Renting An Rv In Europe: Top 10 Questions Answered

Winter travel (Nov-Mar) can be magical in Southern Europe, especially in countries like Spain and Portugal. Many retirees head south in the winter, so there are a number of campgrounds that stay open year-round, plus rental prices are reasonable, the weather is great, and travel is very easy. It’s a great time to go!

If you’re coming to Europe for a short time, renting an RV is the easiest way to go.

Most people end up paying ~$1000/week, but prices can be as low as $350/week or as high as $5000/week. Great rental agencies like Motorhome Republic (www.motorhomeseurope.motorhomerepublic.com), France Motorhome Hire (www.francemotorhomehire.com) and McRent (www.mcrent.eu) are good places to start your search.

If you plan on traveling for more than a few months in Europe, buying will be much cheaper than renting! The only problem is that most European countries require you to be a resident to do this.

Hiring A Campervan To Travel Europe: Choose The Best Option For You!

If you have (very good) friends in the EU Who are ready to help you, this is a possibility. Otherwise, there are agencies that offer special sale and repurchase services for non-residents. You buy from a dealer who registers and titles the RV to you, and you simply resell it for an agreed-upon percentage of the purchase price after you complete your trip. For long term travel, the “rental cost” can easily drop to less than $100/week this way!

BW Campers (www.bwcampers.com), Happy Camper (www.happy-camper.eu) and Europe Roadtrip (www.europe-roadtrip.com) are some of the well-known dealers that offer this service.

Americans traveling to Europe are limited by the 90/180 rule. Basically you are allowed to stay visa-free for 90 days in 26 countries in the so-called “Schengen Area” (= most of continental Europe and Scandinavia), and you have to be outside Schengen for another 90 days before you can come back again.

So, for example, you could drive an RV through Spain, France and Germany (all Schengen areas) for 90 days, then go to a non-Schengen country (e.g. the UK, Ireland, Croatia, Romania or Ukraine) for the next 90 days, and drive Back to Schengen, and so on.

There are other ways to stay longer in Europe (e.g. long-term visas), but sticking to visa-free restrictions is the simplest option.

The last topic is just because I know you’re dying to know, but it’s also the hardest! How much RVing costs depends on when, where, and how you want to travel.

So, it all depends! From the budgets I’ve seen and our own experience, I’d say daily RV expenses for a couple can vary from $50/day (low end) to $150/day (high end). I know the range is wide, and so are the RVing styles!

And although RVing is just as popular among Europeans as it is among Americans – it’s even more popular! – You rarely hear Americans “driving” abroad. However, we just completed our second RV rental extension in Europe and it was one of the best experiences!

In this blog, I want to share some of what we’ve learned about renting an RV in Europe.

This was one of my first thoughts when Alyssa brought up the idea of RVing in Europe. Plus, while you’re here, I’ll let you in on a not-so-little secret: Nobody actually says Travel Around Europe. This is often referred to as motorbike riding or renting a campervan, but never RVing. However, if you are from America, you are probably familiar with the term RVing. Same concept, different word usage.

So why rent an RV in Europe? The norm when visiting major European cities is to stay in an Airbnb or hotel. This makes a lot of sense if you’re only visiting for a few days. However, if you are planning a long trip abroad (two weeks or more) and want to spend time exploring small villages and back roads, renting an RV is a great option.
