For her bedroom, my daughter wanted a boho quilt filled with cozy pillows and gray and blush tones. What he doesn’t want is for his space to be overrun or take more than a few hours to put together (translation: I’m no more allowed to hang out than the other parents to set up and decorate his room 🙂 ). Done! We are both happy with how it turned out!

Trendy College Dorm Room Ideas That Are Popular This Year

Here’s where things start – a small bedroom with a loft, a desk and drawers:

If I had to pick one item that made the biggest impact in the room, it would be our wall hanging – it’s amazing and only took ten minutes to hang. It is very reasonably priced so it really hits the mark for the money!

We originally hung the rugs using two-way velcro command straps, but they didn’t stick to the rug as well as we’d hoped, so we did pretty well.

Rugs aren’t just for bedrooms – if your child has bare walls, inexpensive rugs are the perfect simple decorating solution. Places to buy great bedroom rugs include Pottery, Urban Wear, and Amazon. How To Decorate Your Dorm So It Doesn’t Feel Like A Dorm

Most dormitories are small and students use their beds as their sleeping space. Or get a large (24-26″) square pillow like the Comfort Euro Pillows I used on my daughter’s bed in powder brown.

Its clear cushions no longer exist, but are similar. It provides a great comfortable place to sit in bed to read, do homework or just relax. We added this gray pom pom pillowcase and a nice, chunky knit to her bed:

My daughter has never been one to sit and study at a desk – she prefers a more comfortable place! So we added a recessed task light to the top rail of his bed, so he has plenty of light when he needs it:

It should definitely be on your bedroom wish list! You can find similar plug-in task lights at Pottery Barn Teens or Amazon.

Decorating A Dorm Room On A Budget

Because bedrooms are so small, you need to make the most of every square inch of space. Especially when we talk about bedroom ideas for girls who tend to bring a lot of clothes. Under my daughter’s bed, we took out the table and put it in another part of the room (I’ll show you in a minute!) But from the chest of drawers, we added three of these three-level storage kids:

One we had was from Pottery Barn Teens, but unfortunately it’s no longer available, but there are plenty of similar options.

If your daughter wants to raise her bed, she will need the chair to jump into her bed. We went together.

The upper part opens up the storage space where shoes are used to free up space in her closet:

Our favorite addition to this space is this bed organizer that we hang at the foot of the bed:

There’s extra storage in the desk area, which is accessible from the raised bed top, so she can slip snacks, headphones and more into her pocket. The exact item we bought is no longer available, but very similar.

We’ve moved the fridge/microwave as far to the left as possible, put the original under-bed table here, and added a few new items, including one. We somehow didn’t look at the exact dimensions when ordering for the bedroom table (it’s 36″ x 40″)! It’s lightweight and already comes with adhesive strips on the back of the board, so hanging it was as simple as peeling off the backing of each sticker and pressing it to the wall!

We taped this to the corners with clear scotch tape. These pinboards were eventually filled with photos, magazine clippings, and memorabilia. It was definitely my favorite bedroom.

It has a table lamp, like the one on the table, and it has a lot of potential – a USB port:

Now he has an easy, accessible place to charge his phone, and he never has to worry about losing his charger.

One last little detail: My daughter’s grandmother (Jeff’s mom) had Cross sew this pillow for her a year before she died – I know she laughed at it when she saw it would find a home in her college dorm room.

My daughter is happy with how her bedroom turned out and of course I am happy for her:
